Member Verify FAQ

What is changing?

The authentication process in Home Banking (MCW) will require a two step process.  Members will enter their Account Number and Access Code as usual but will then be taken to a secondary authentication page in which they must answer one random question that they selected during registration.

Why is this change taking place?

GEFCU is committed to ensuring security for our members.  Home Banking (MCW) authentication methods are being enhanced to increase security to help protect our members.

How do I register to use the new security features?

When you login to Home Banking (MCW) you can register in one of two ways.

2)     If you have not registered yet you will see a message on your Account Summary screen that includes a link.  Click the link “Sign Up Now” to register.

1)     Click the “Member Verify” link from the Other Options menu in Home Banking (MCW) to begin the registration process.

What is my Security Image?

Your security image is the image you select from our library during registration that will be displayed along with your security phrase during subsequent logins.  You should never type in the answer to your security questions unless you see your security image and security phrase on the login page.

What is my Security Phrase?

Your security phrase is a custom phrase you type in during the registration process that will be displayed along with your security image during subsequent logins.  You should never type in the answer to your security questions unless you see your security image and security phrase on the login page.

What are my Security Questions?

Your security questions are the three questions you choose during the enrollment process.  You will also provide an answer to each security question that only you know.  You will be asked one random question during each subsequent visit to Home Banking (MCW).

What is my email address used for?

The email address you provide during registration will be used in the instance you do not know the answer to your security questions and therefore can’t get logged into Home Banking (MCW).  When requested, a randomly generated one-time authentication code will be sent to this email address that you will then use to be authenticated.

Which email address can I use?

You may use any email address you choose.  We highly recommend that you use an email address that you can access from a browser interface or use an email enabled portable device such as a cell phone or pager.  This will allow you to receive an authentication code at a remote computer such as a library, airport, or work computer.  This email will only be used when you forget your answer to your security questions.

Can I still access Home Banking (MCW) from multiple computers?

Yes.  You will be asked one of your Security Questions every time you log in to Home Banking (MCW).  This will happen the exact same way from any computer whether you have logged on from it before or not.

Why am I shown my Security Image and Security Phrase?  How does this help protect me?

One of the most common tricks fraudsters use is making users think they are logging into a valid website when they are indeed logging into a fraudulent site.  Having a Security Image and Security Phrase that only we know makes it more difficult for fraudsters to trick you into giving them your answers to your security questions.  If you never type in the answer to your security question unless you see your Security Image and Security Phrase then you will be less likely to be tricked into sharing it with fraudsters.
